Garage wine estate focused on producing high-quality single-vineyard wines from pinot gris, chardonnay, pinot noir, zweigelt and blaufrankisch. The vineyards are located in eastern Slovenia, in the Stajerska wine region. Since 2010, Nicholas Gee produces around 20,000 bottles of top-quality wine there each year.
Nick studied winemaking in New Zealand, his home country. After graduating, he decided to explore the world of wine and embarked on an 8-year journey of discovery. During those 8 years, he worked at 14 different wineries in 6 different countries. Experience was gained in wineries in New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, Austria, USA and finally Slovenia. The best learning experiences were at Weingut Vollenwieder, Domaine Ogier and Yering Station.
Nick’s own vision of winemaking was formed during this period. For him, wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar. Each wine is a reflection of the terroir in which the grapes grow. Vinification is done as naturally as possible, without the addition of yeasts.
The Vineyards
Heaps Good Wine Company does not own any vineyards. The grapes are purchased from three growers. They work very closely with the growers to ensure that only the best fruit reaches the wine cellar. The growing process is carried out from start to finish according to Nick's instructions, with only one criterion: top quality grapes. Of course, all processing and picking is done by hand.
