Belgian passion
Recently we met Bert Hamelinck and Jan Brouwers. Two Belgian gentlemen with a passion for the good things in life, especially when they come from Italy. Last year, the gentlemen were given the opportunity to turn this passion for wine into what could well become their greatest adventure. In Saragano in Umbria, they were able to take over a 30-year-old wine estate. Plans were made and put into action. The gentlemen have a clear goal in mind: Cantina Il Torrione will become one of the iconic wine estates in the region.
How, you ask? First and foremost, by acquiring the necessary knowledge. In collaboration with an agriculturalist (Stefano Dini) and top oenologist (Francesco Beligni), everything is currently being done to make Il Torrione a sustainable and organic estate. The necessary work (and investments) in the vineyard and cellars have been done, so that Il Torrione can grow into the top wine estate that Jan and Bert have in mind in the coming years. We are therefore particularly proud that we can help write this story.
Montefalco
Il Torrione is located in Umbria, in the wine region of Montefalco. A wine region that is sometimes called the forgotten pearl of Italy. The famous Montefalco Sagrantino has been produced there since the Middle Ages. In addition to this grape, the estate also has Sangiovese and Merlot plantations.
Currently, three wines are produced on the estate: the top cuvée Montefalco Sagrantino, a delicious Montefalco Rosso and a Passito de Sagrantino. In addition to wine, the estate also produces a cold-pressed olive oil based on 5 old olive varieties. Just like the wines, of course, top quality.
