Tesch Riesling Krone 2022
Exuberant fruit and great complexity. That is what Krone stands for. The KRONE vineyard in the town of Laubenheim is located directly next to the LÖHRER BERG. However, geographical proximity is almost all that these vineyards have in common. The steep south-eastern slope of the KRONE is characterized by a mix of light and coarse soils of decalcified loess and weathered sandstone, which give the Rieslings a very complex character. Dramatic temperature extremes due to exposure to the westerly wind, most pronounced at night, give the wine a somewhat sharper character with a pronounced citrus aroma.

“From weathered red sandstone and light loam soils, Tesch’s 2022 Krone Laubenheimer Riesling trocken is pure and dense on the quite intense and citric-scented nose. Dense and round on the plate, with a good texture and well-integrated acidity, this is a cooler-styled dry Riesling with not much juice but good phenolic structure. The finish is still a bit dry. 11.5% stated alcohol. Stelvin screw cap. Tasted in October 2023.“ 91 | S. Reinhardt | www.robertparker.com
“Super-ripe lemon aromas and flavors, it tastes like sunshine! Juicy front and mid-palate, then the racy finish is as clean as a mountain stream. Simultaneously lemony, exciting and delicate. Just 11.5% alcohol. Drink or hold.” 94 | S. Pigott | www.jamessuckling.com
“The Krone is a bit rounder than the Unplugged, and although dry, is less austere. The body is medium-light with good firmness. The wine has lime minerality and should improve over the next few years. Screw cap closure. 11.5% stated alcohol.”

“Full, yellow-labelled, screwcapped bottle just 1,161 g. Grown on weathered red sandstone and light loam. Rich, peachy nose and broad palate finishing with a mineral kick. Already very refreshing though fairly low in extract. An afternoon Riesling?! Drink 2023 – 2027“ 16.5/20 | J. Robinson | www.jancisrobinson.com
