Tesch Riesling Karthäuser 2022

Karthäuser Riesling, that is complex, expressive and spicy Riesling. The soil in this cru consists mainly of red sandstone. This southwest-facing vineyard, located above Laubenheim, is shaped like an amphitheatre. The weathered sandstone soil efficiently collects and stores heat, which allows the grapes planted here to ripen first. The Rieslings produced from KARTHÄUSER grapes are almost as impressive as the vineyard itself: ripe, quiet, powerful and spicy, with a tight structure and admirable acid control. The name comes from its medieval owners, a monastery of Carthusian monks known for their vows of silence.

93/100 The Fine Wine Review

“A dry riesling masterpiece with a near-perfect balance of restrained ripeness, very complex wild herb aromas and an extremely mineral acidity. Stunning concentration and brilliance on the extremely focused palate. The enormous energy at the whiplash finish suggests this has excellent aging potential. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.” 97 | S. Pigott | www.jamessuckling.com

“From a warm, early-ripening plot on Rotliegend (red sandstone), the intensely yellow-colored 2022 Karthäuser Laubenheimer Riesling trocken opens with an aromatic and quite generous bouquet of ripe (red) fruits and a reductive flintiness that tends toward untamed notes. The acidity is remarkably fine but vivacious and well integrated into the supple texture and full body. It gives a saline and uplifting finish with complex talents. It is tight and tensioned and with very good length despite, or because, of 11.5% stated alcohol. Stelvin screw cap. Tasted in October 2023.” 93 | S. Reinhardt | www.robertparker.com

“Full screwcapped bottle, with its maroon label, just 1,160 g. Grown on weathered red sandstone. Layered and youthful with marked acidity but good potential. A wine to heal a sore throat? Worth waiting for? Drink 2024 – 2029“ 16.5+/20 | J. Robinson | www.jancisrobinson.com

“The Karthäuser is spicy in the nose and medium-weight mouth with less biting acidity and more roundness than the St. Remigiusberg or the Königsschild. Screw cap closure. 11.5% stated alcohol.” 93/A | C. Kolm | TheFineWineReview
